Devotional: Living Life on Mission Through Generosity
A companion resource for the "Life on Mission" sermon series: Part 2.
You are not an accident. God created you with a purpose: to glorify Him. One of the most powerful ways to live out this mission is through generosity.
Generosity isn’t just about giving money; it’s about trusting God with all your resources—your time, talents, and treasures. When you live generously, you make a bold declaration: God is my provider, and I trust Him, not my possessions, for my safety and security. This kind of trust glorifies God, reflecting His goodness to a world that often relies on material wealth for fulfillment.
Generosity is also a way to live outwardly focused, meeting both the physical and spiritual needs of others. Whether it’s supporting someone in crisis, sharing your time to disciple others, or giving to your local church, your generosity has eternal impact. Those who receive your generosity are blessed, their needs are met, and they are drawn to glorify God in response.
Living on mission means aligning every part of your life with God’s purpose, including how you steward what He has given you. True generosity goes beyond emotional moments of giving and becomes a consistent practice that reflects your faith. It is through generosity that God’s work is accomplished in the world, and His glory is revealed to those around us.
And above all, generosity reminds us of God’s heart. He gave us the ultimate gift—His Son, Jesus Christ—demonstrating indescribable love and sacrifice. As we live generously, we reflect His character and point others to Him.
Scripture Focus:
Isaiah 43:7 – “Everyone who is called by my name, whom I created for my glory, whom I formed and made.”
2 Corinthians 9:6-8 – “Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.”
Matthew 6:19-21 – “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven… For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

Make a plan to grow in consistent generosity.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for creating me with a purpose: to glorify You. Forgive me when I allow distractions, fear, or misplaced trust in material things to take my focus away from You. Help me to align my heart with Your will through consistent prayer. Teach me to trust in You for my security and not in what I possess.
Make me a cheerful giver, willing to share my time, talents, and resources for Your glory. Use my generosity to meet the needs of others and to cause them to praise You. Remind me daily of the indescribable gift of Jesus Christ, who gave everything for me.
Guide me to live with eternity in mind, knowing that my mission continues forever in Your presence. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
