Devotional: Ordinary People. Extraordinary Strength.
Reflection
God takes ordinary people and uses their struggles for extraordinary purposes. Suffering often shakes us, whether we are strong in faith or just figuring it all out. When pain hits, it often leads to doubt. “Where is God in this?” “Why is this happening to me?” Even Paul, the great apostle, faced suffering that wouldn’t go away—a thorn in the flesh that he pleaded with God to remove. But instead of taking it away, God gave Paul something even greater: the assurance that His grace was enough.
Pain doesn’t sideline us from God’s work—it can be the very thing that draws us deeper into His purpose. Our weakness doesn’t disqualify us; it invites God’s power. If you're struggling today, what if instead of just asking, "God, take this away," you also asked, "God, how can You use this?" Your suffering may be the very thing that strengthens your faith and impacts others.
Scripture: "But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me."
— 2 Corinthians 12:9 (NIV)
Paul’s perspective on suffering challenges us to see our hardships differently. Instead of viewing trials as obstacles, we can begin to see them as opportunities for growth. Every difficult season refines us, teaching us dependence on God. When we stop resisting our struggles and start embracing God’s grace in them, we find a deeper intimacy with Him. Our trials become a testimony—not just of endurance, but of divine power at work within us.
God takes what seems ordinary—our struggles, our weaknesses, our brokenness—and weaves them into an extraordinary story of redemption. Think about those who have suffered yet radiate incredible faith. Their stories often inspire and encourage others. Why? Because their faith wasn’t built in comfort; it was strengthened in adversity. When we allow God to use our suffering, we discover that our greatest struggles can lead to our greatest impact.
